Construction site of the week – Demolition of a chimney in Kassel
Demolition work on a 30-meter-high chimney in Kassel
In March, our member company Sebastian Poppke GmbH dismantled a 32-metre-high chimney on the grounds of the riot police in Kassel. The chimney on building 8, which was built in 1972 using in-situ concrete, had a diameter of 2.60 m and contained around 150 tons of reinforced concrete.
Dismantling the individual segments by means of sawing work
A 120-ton mobile crane was used for the initial gutting work. A personal danger cage took the employees to a height. There they first began with the gutting and then drilled the anchor points with a core drill. The individual segments were dismantled using sawing work and the telescopic truck crane. They were then transported to “BAUREKA”, a company for building material recycling and mineral waste management. There, the segments were crushed, pulverized and processed.
The contract was awarded by Hochtief Bau und Betrieb GmbH.
