Construction site of the week – Dismantling of a sports hall in Rastatt
In Rastatt (Baden-Württemberg), DA member company Libare Rückbau GmbH demolished a sports hall with an adjacent janitor’s apartment. The project was originally scheduled to take six weeks but took a little longer due to the need for extensive refurbishment.
Asbestos found on the roof and in the flat
The fact that every demolition site is different was also evident here in Tulpenstraße: after the work has started, asbestos was found on the flat roofs, in the plaster and flooring of the janitor’s apartment, in the joint compound on the concrete supports in the gym and in the shingles of the apartment’s façade.
Onsite material preparation impossible
After the extensive asbestos removal in the interior and exterior areas, the successive dismantling of the reinforced concrete gym and the adjoining apartment with the individual masonry partition walls began. Due to the surrounding buildings, the approx. 1,300 tons of concrete and approx. 400 tons of rubble could not be processed onsite but were taken to a material disposal site 30 kilometers away. The material was processed and recycled there.
No restrictions on kindergarten operations
The demolition site with a total area of 1,300 sqm borders on a residential area and is also in the immediate vicinity of a kindergarten, which made special precautions and coordination with the neighbours necessary. In order not to interfere with daycare operations, only low-dust and low-noise work was carried out at certain times, for example when the children were outside playing, or the work was paused briefly.
However, when the excavator was back in action, there was certainly plenty for the little ones to look at and marvel at.
