Construction site of the week – Demolition of a bell tower
Instead of bells ringing, construction site noises have been heard in Düsseldorf’s Südallee since mid-May. Here, DA member company Vennes Erd- & Tiefbau Abbruch is demolishing a 37-metre-high bell tower from 1966.
An 86 t Hitachi tracked excavator (KMC 600 P-7), two Hitachi ZX350s and a heavy-duty crane holding a protective mat are being used on the 5,000 square meter demolition site. The reinforced concrete structure with masonry infills is cut down and removed in a controlled manner using demolition shears.
The work is accompanied by intensive watering to bind the dust as effectively as possible. There is a day nursery and a shopping area next to the construction site. The surrounding roads have been closed to prevent any danger to passers-by or passing cars.
Parallel to the dismantling of the tower, two building complexes on the site will be demolished, processed and disposed of professionally.
The project will continue until mid-July 2024. New apartments are to be built on the resulting site.
