Construction site of the week – Office building demolished

In Aichach, near Augsburg, a former office building was gutted and dismantled in a controlled demolition in a short space of time. DA member company Konrad Kreppold GmbH realised the project from mid-October to mid-December 2024, starting with the removal of loose objects from the approximately 50-year-old, 18.5-metre-high building. The employees then took preparatory measures for the asbestos removal. This was followed by asbestos removal, gutting and remediation of all floors. Finally, three employees dismantled the building, which consisted mainly of reinforced concrete and sand-lime brick, using a 23 metre long front excavator and two 30 tonne crawler excavators.

After demolition work was completed, materials such as asbestos, PCBs and KMF were removed and disposed of. Approx. 1600 tonnes of concrete were sampled and processed in the stationary crushing plant.

During the work, particular attention was paid to the neighbouring production facility of a timber engineering company, whose operations were to continue undisturbed. Despite a tight schedule and cramped conditions, the project was completed on time. A car park is to be built on the site in the future.
