Construction site of the week – Demolition of 150-year-old building

Since the beginning of August, two buildings in the district town of Eutin (Schleswig-Holstein) have been demolished by DA member company Rohweder Abbruch- und Rückbautechnik, including a former farm building estimated to be more than 150 years old. The two 2.5-storey buildings, which are located in the city center, have a partial basement that is also being demolished. A road closure has been set up on one side to protect passing traffic. The company is also shielding the demolition site with a demolition curtain.

Before the work began, a pollutant register was drawn up and a preservation of evidence procedure was carried out on the neighboring buildings. After clearing out and gutting the building, the company itself carried out the remediation of hazardous substances in accordance with TRGS 519 in the outdoor area using a high work platform. The main building is now being dismantled, followed by the adjacent building. Another adjoining building is expected to be retained, which is why the separation is being carried out manually. Behind the buildings there are still stables, garages and sheds in which several heating oil tanks were located, which were professionally emptied, cleaned and decommissioned by a specialist company.

The main building, which was very dilapidated due to water damage, consists of half-timbering, clay plaster and thatch. The second building and the outbuildings are more solid.

The rubble is taken to the Rohweder company’s depot, where it is crushed with a City Trak 9TX crusher and processed with a Rubble Master HS5000 screening plant and cleaned of impurities with an Airmaster Neo windsifter for further recycling.

The construction of new residential and commercial buildings to modern energy standards is planned on the site. Each apartment will have its own exhaust air heat pump.
