DA position on the end of waste is in the coalition agreement

On 9 April 2025, the CDU, CSU and SPD agreed on a joint coalition agreement that sets out the political guidelines for the coming years in Germany. It is particularly pleasing that the issues of the end of waste and recycled building materials have also been explicitly taken into account – as the DA has repeatedly called for.
Point 764 of the contract specifically states: “We are introducing an end-of-waste regulation in the Substitute Building Materials Ordinance, enabling the necessary facilities for the increased use of recycled building materials.”
In contrast to many other, sometimes vaguely formulated declarations of intent, this passage is a pleasingly clear plan that the DA very much welcomes. In the past, together with other industry associations, we have repeatedly campaigned in favour of a regulation on the end of waste characteristic.
The Coalition Agreement 2025 is currently still subject to approval by the relevant committees of the three parties. We very much hope that the passage quoted will also be included in the final document.
